Can You Do Easy?

Before a student learns to use the strategies of Centipede Math, the student learns five primary strategies:
1) Group
2) Centipede
3) Touch and Count
4) Seqentia
5) Proxy.

Grouping

The Group is the first of five strategies used to teach math to students who struggle with math. It eliminates using Cuisenaire Rods, the Montessori Math Boards, fraction tiles, etc., in teaching math. There is no more being overwhelmed with a lot of pieces and heavy gadgets to do math problems.

According to Centipede Math, groups help students to model math expressions so that he/she understands the fundamentals of addition, multiplication, subtraction, and division. Centipede Math believes that once a student understands the fundamentals, it helps to develop number sense.

The Centipede is a strategy that assures the retrieval of correct math facts in solving math problems. It becomes the student’s “math map.” It eliminates the statement, “I cannot remember after numerous drills and rote learning.”

Sequentia is a strategy used to tabulate addition and subtraction math facts.

Touch and Count

Touch and Count is a strategy to tabulate math facts.

Proxy

Proxy is a strategy used to simply division in finding answers to problems with or without remainder.
